Congrats! We just made a cake with a neutral icing and the gender color inside. Everyone got to enjoy the cutting experience and then eat the cake.
I love lemon icing, so we paired that with pink strawberry boxed cake mix since we're having a girl. We would've had to get creative with blue food coloring and probably a blueberry or blue raspberry cake flavoring if it was a boy.

@barefoot-kitchen,
obviously not applicable here, but in case anyone needs it: you can make a blue version of red velvet cake by using blue dye instead of red!
Congrats on your girl!

I got a balloon with the pink or blue confetti made at a craft store (Australia - spotlight), we brought it to our local restaurant who were excited for us (and happy to clean up!) it was really easy and fun

my sister did a pop up cake which was really fun, you can do cake pops or cupcakes where only one has the color on the inside so you can go around the room and everyone bites into theirs until you get to the gender reveal one. You can go to a baby store, pick out one outfit for each gender and have the worker ring up and wrap the right one in a gift bag/box you bring with you, then open it all together

With our first my husband and I got white shirts and some paint and used it to paint our hands and put our handprints of the gender on our shirts!

We shot skeets and in one of them was blue powder.
We also liked the idea of black balloons with colors in them. Only 1 with gender and playing darts.
We are very much a competitive and interactive couple so we wanted it to be fun!

We did a small intimate one too with our first. I made old wives tale cards and went through them with the small group of family, circling what symptoms I had that meant “boy or girl”. Then everyone made their guesses based on that. Then we gave everyone a small favor box full of little pink “it’s a girl” toys and favor things that was all from the dollar tree. Everyone opened them at once so it was a lot of fun!
