Allergy Birthday Dogs Recipe
Whiskey is a rescue dog, so we don’t really know how old he is. I think he was about 1.5 to 2 years old when I got him, but we can’t really be sure. So instead of celebrating his birthday, we celebrate the anniversary of whenherescuedme. (Year One, Year Two, Year Three)
Today marks four years of adventures together.
… and lots of napping. It’s exhausting being this cute.
Always cuddling with his stuffed toys. |
This little pooch came into my life just when I needed him. He is my best bud, my favourite snuggler and my sous chef in the kitchen (he mostly helps with picking up the scraps I drop…especially cheese scraps).
He and Garrett have been like two peas in a pod since day one and I have loved seeing their relationship grow. Garrett sometimes has days off midweek, while I’m still at work, and when I ask him about what he did all day, it’s always a “we”. “We” went to visit my parents. “We” picked up my Nana. “We” went to Timmy’s to get some coffee and Timbits. “We” went to the car wash. “We” took an afternoon nap. “We” ate the last of the cheddar.
It’s always great coming home to find pictures like this in my camera. I can only imagine what the two of them were up to this day. |
And funny enough, I can picture Whiskey sitting beside him the whole time. We tease Whiskey all the time that the three of us are his “pack” but we really are. Everything I do is better when I do it with the two of them.
It really doesn’t feel like it’s been four years since I got him because I really can’t remember what it was like before he was here. I don’t remember what it was like to wake up without his little furry body wriggling to get under the covers and I don’t remember what I did before he came along to eat the crumbs in the kitchen (swept?). And I’m glad I can’t remember what it was like before this little beam of sunshine and happiness came into my life.
To celebrate four great years together, I made him his own birthday cake. I’ve always wanted to make him a cake, but all the recipes I’ve found call for adding peanut butter. I have a life-threatening allergy to peanuts and nuts, so that wasn’t an option. This recipe uses no peanut butter and there is nothing in there that a human can’t eat if they felt so inclined to try it (I’m talking to you, Garrett).

Happy Anniversary Whiskey!
He kept looking at Garrett to make sure it was okay to eat it. I think he thought it was people food and off limits. We usually say “go ahead” when food is okay for him to eat and I think we said it about 8 times before he actually took a lick of the icing.
A little banana frosting on the nose. Just can’t quite reach.
